Private Classes with Shaykh Sharif Zain

Study the Qur’ān one to one with a teacher who holds an ijāzah in Hafs ‘an ‘Āsim and in the Ten Minor Qirā’āt — from the Arabic letters through to a full ijāzah of your own.

Packages

Every package runs weekly through the 38-week teaching year, over Zoom or in person. One-to-one fees are set for the year and can be paid four ways.

Ijāzah Package

One-to-one study towards an ijāzah in Hafs ‘an ‘Āsim, with the full chain of transmission.

For students starting from the Arabic letters and building towards reading the mushaf.

  • Arabic letters, their forms and points of articulation
  • Joining letters, short and long vowels, then reading from the mushaf
  • Most beginners are placed in the group Tajweed class alongside this

Group Tajweed for Beginners

A weekly group class taught in Somali and English, working through Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl.

  • Weekly one-hour group class over Zoom, with a class group chat
  • Taught bilingually in Somali and English
  • Follows Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl, with recordings of past sessions available
  • Students progress from here onto the Recitation Package

How to apply

Every application begins with a free 15-minute consultation, so the Shaykh can hear your recitation and place you on the right package.

    Send an enquiry

    Tell the Shaykh which package interests you, your level, and the days and times you could attend.

    Send a recitation

    Record two or three minutes of yourself reciting on your phone. The Shaykh watches it before you speak.

    Free consultation

    A 15-minute conversation to confirm your level, agree a package and find a slot that works.

    Begin your classes

    Weekly sessions over Zoom or in person, with the year’s fee paid up front, in instalments or by standing order.

Students must be 16 or older.

Brothers and sisters

The Shaykh is taking on brothers at present. Sisters’ places are planned for a later intake, and will require a mahram to be present.

Fees

Fees are set for the academic year and paid in advance. Pay in one or two instalments for a discount, or spread the full fee over ten months by standing order.

Cancellations

Fees are paid in advance, so sessions cancelled with reasonable notice are made up or credited rather than refunded. Repeated late cancellation without notice may end a place.
